This movie starts with the introduction of the character named Deven (played by Salman Khan) who speaks in an anglicized accent, who is also a chorus singer in the country of Prague. He is shown to be too much into his dream world and aspires to get married to a cello player named Anushka (played by Katrina Kaif) who is the epitome of eternal beauty. The ploy basically doesn’t have anything. It is the same age old story that a rich guy cannot marry a poor girl thereby, both the family objecting to their reunion. Subhas Ghai has somewhat tried to keep a hangover of Munnabhai MBBS to this plot as he has shown Boman Irani playing the role of the father of the girl. He also plays the role of a doctor who is part of the laughter therapy mode of the film.
This movie had released in the year 2008 with some very bad movies like Drona and Love Story 2050- all were competing to be the worst film of the year. But the problem with Yuvraj was that it was not only a bad film but it was a boring film too which lead to more disappointment for the audience. It was quite a surprise that a director like Subhash Ghai could make such a shabby movie after giving movies like Yadein and Kisna. Though its music is quite soothing to listen. Like all other Bollywood movies, Deven too belongs to a rich and affluent family who comes back to his acquire his family property after his old father’s death. From this part of the story, the plot starts to revolve only around the fight among the members of the family to acquire a share in the property. The plot becomes so complex as a number of new characters are introduced one after another without much purpose or characterization. The movie eventually turns into a Sooraj Barjatya movie where we see a malicious ‘mamaji’ and cleavage showing ‘bhabhis’. We also encounter Deven’s spoiled brat brother Danny (played by Zayed Khan) and a mentally challenged brother Gyanesh (played by Anil Kapoor). But the father wants to give away his property to Deven only. But there is an utter confusion as all of them are in constant tiff with each other to have their share in the property.
The script written by Sachin Bhowmick and Kamlesh Pandey has a lot of fault leading the plot to be boring and lacking any kind of innovation in the method of storytelling. Even the structure of the screenplay is so unimpressive. The tiresome direction done by Subhash Ghai makes it more boring to be watched even once! The scenes are all jumbled up with poor dialogue delivery and being so mechanical in nature. The stupid dialogue delivery of Salman Khan also disappoints the viewers. Ghai’s is so casual with his direction that the magnified drama between the brothers just falls flat and evokes none of our emotions whereas the movie was supposed to be about bonding of these three brothers! The writers further complicates the plot by making Anil Kapoor to fall in love with Katrina. When the writers realizes the confusion they eventually averts the love triangle to prevent the movie from creating too many confusions. To make up for it the movie shows that a mentally challenged person is bound to be excelling in classical singing. Is it so? Really?
Another major setback of the movie is that it shows Hindi subtitles whenever the cast is speaking in English. The translations are so bad and you would rather choose not to read them at all! The performances of the actors are so statue like as if they are so emotionless while delivering their dialogues. Only Salman Khan actually justifies his image of real life anger mode and obsession that he genuinely has for acquiring everything he wants. While Boman Irani is shown over acting and Katrina is shown under acting and nonetheless Zayed Khan cannot act only. Anil Kapoor does just appropriate for his role. We just request Subhash Ghai that if he is continuing with his direction then he should take some modern classes upon filmmaking before making his next movie! So watch Yuvraaj at your own risk, do not blame us that we never blamed you from before. You can also find music track on Youtube and itunes.
